Connecting through Bread and Community
Arlington provides opportunities to grow closer with the community and increase business opportunities. That is what Lauren Hammond discovered when moving to Arlington. She shares her journey of entrepreneurship, community engagement, and the strong ties that bind her bakery to our community.
Lauren’s family moved to Arlington with the original plan to not live here long term, “we found a house that was perfect for us… after being here for just a short time, we fell in love with Arlington and we didn’t want to leave.“ Lauren, who initially aspired to be a school teacher, found herself taking a different path when her daughters’ cheerleading aspirations led them to raise money through baking. “We decided to bake bread and deliver it. And that’s how we started… my girls even had a little jingle that they did. It was really, really cute and we would make bread together and deliver it.” What began as a fundraiser went on to be a cottage bakery. Once a store front opportunity landed in her lap, it quickly blossomed into a full-fledged business as Lauren discovered her talent for baking and her community’s appreciation for her homemade goods.
Lauren and her family have called Arlington home for over a decade. Not only was there an instant community when the Hammond’s moved here, but people were committed to help when trials hit their family. As Lauren describes, the town’s close-knit nature and willingness to rally around one another are evident in the way Arlington supported her during her battle with breast cancer. She recalls a close friend’s statement, “Lauren, we’re in this for the long haul’, and those words stuck with me.” The outpouring of love and assistance from her neighbors and friends made all the difference.
Hammond Bread Co.’s connection to the Arlington community goes beyond just providing delectable treats. Lauren emphasizes the importance of supporting local businesses and encouraging residents to shop and dine within their town. Despite the challenges small businesses face, she remains committed to fostering a sense of community by creating a warm and inviting space where people can gather, share stories, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
Lauren’s commitment to supporting local businesses is not only a testament to her dedication but also a reflection of Arlington’s values. In a world where small businesses often face challenges, Arlington residents understand the importance of shopping locally. Their unwavering support for Hammond Bread Co. and other hometown favorites ensures the community remains vibrant and prosperous. Lauren’s bakery serves as a gathering place where locals come not just for delicious treats but also to strengthen the bonds that define Arlington. She sums it up perfectly saying, “Hammond Bread Co. is more than a bakery; it’s a haven of community connection”

I think it’s so special. It’s not just the tree lighting but the choirs that sing on the stage… but there’s so many things. I love Arlington. they’ll even make up a holiday if there’s no holiday!“ As she reflects on Arlington’s growth over the years, Lauren acknowledges the flourishing town events, like the farmers market and holiday festivities, that capture the essence of Arlington.
